Celia has been fascinated by nature and its bountiful creations of beauty since childhood captivated in its extraordinary variety that stimulates a sense of awe that is the foundation of her art. Her vivid imagination thrived in folklore, mythology and fairy tales, themes that explore an unseen aspect of life and a sense of wonder. Kofi Annan Secretar General for UN for 10 years and International Campaigner for Human Rights said, “I believe that the process of greening the world could turn out to be as critical for society as the Industrial Revolution was in its day.’
‘The bigger the challenge, the greater the potential for man’s creativity and power of innovation to prove itself’’
I believes his words capture a fresh and creative perspective on the environmental and socioeconomic challenges facing us. Art has the power to convey and communicate information positively, through being inspired rather than shocked into reaction. i am seeking to nurture an emotional connection with the marine world, harnessing creativity to intrigue and raise awareness. I hope to cultivate a sense of responsibility and to help us to understand that each one of us is interwoven with our planets well-being with choices and the power to make the decisions. Ultimate we protect what we love.
In this time of environmental crisis people are experiencing an increased desire to learn and understand ways to contribute to our human survival. We are all connected to the oceans. Ultimately we all rely on their continuing health. We can be conscious of our impacts and start to plan and manage our interaction, preserving the pleasures and resources the ocean provides, for all future generation.
My aim for The Marine Foundation and i choose the use of the word foundation because for me in conjures up images of a strong grounding that supports.
I want to support a new vision of value, respect and appreciation of the resources and pleasures the oceans provides. How ever not in a judgmental way but through fun and creativity so that people feel excited and empowered. I believe pointing the finger in blame only wastes valuable energy and we could better serve the issue exploring solutions.
Placing the art underwater invites new ways of interaction, The world of under water and its potential platform for interactive art that utilizes the ability to seemly flying over the work, dive down and swim through. There is also the challenge of conveying the visual material in ways so that the works can be experience with out getting wet. It is through the use of all forms of creative expression the mysteries of the deep can be communicated to a above water audience.
The ocean is a vast and magical body of water. It has a strong feminine qualities that we associate with nurture and care The rhythm of the tides is created by the moon, the in and the out of the wave is never ceasing it changes but it is always there.
The universal mantra so similar to the in and out of our breath, Breath is life and aligning ourself to this sound is like falling into the arms of the mother.
Water is the giver of life and everything flows into the sea. We were born from the ocean and it is a symbol of our oneness.
