Answers To Your Questions

1. Can you tell me a bit about your garments and accessories?

  • Diamond Head Road's products are designed and inspired by life on the island of Hawaii. We employ a family-owned and operated boutique textile company based on Bali in Indonesia.
  • Each Kohala Coast set spends six to eight weeks in an intense artistic process overseen by skilled artisans who have specialized in silk for several generations.
  • The wraps are hemmed with silk thread to encourage durability and limit puckering after washing. They are pre-shrunk and rinsed and dried several times during the batik process to prevent bleeding when washed.
  • The traditional Ikat fabric chosen for the outside of the clutch is woven in the village of Solo from handspun, locally grown cotton that is dyed with two different colors to create its magnificent coloration and shine.
  • The fans are made from an Indonesian hard wood that is not on the list of endangered trees.
  • Due to the lack of pesticides needed in its production, silk is a naturally environmentally friendly fabric.

2. How should I care for my wrap?

  • Unbeknownst to many people, natural silk is not a wimpy fabric! Our wraps love to be washed on delicate in a cool temp washer and dried in a medium temp dryer.
  • They should be washed with other delicate items and will dry very quickly - REMOVE PROMPTLY and fold right away to prevent wrinkles. They can also be lightly ironed if needed.
  • A mesh lingerie bag can be used during the wash cycle, but not while drying.
  • With each washing, the fabric continues to soften and takes on a gorgeous sand-washed vintage quality.

3. What are some fun ways to use the fan & clutch?

  • Fans have always been a very popular fashion accessory in Europe. It is not uncommon to see a fashionable man or woman with a chic little fan at a sidewalk cafe.
  • Our fans are sized just right so that they fit nicely into a smaller evening bag or handbag. Not surprisingly, our fans have become quite the rage for our clients who experience those annoying little hot flashes.
  • Our clutches are very sturdy and are large enough to actually be useful! I carry two or three with me while traveling and use them for lingerie, bathing suits, jewelry, etc. They are also great for moms who have outgrown their diaper bags, but still need to carry a travel size baby wipe container along with a diaper.

4. What about sizing?

  • Our wraps are offered in one size fits all and measure 72" X 40".

5. What is the inspiration behind Diamond Head Road Home & Body?

  • The real Diamond Head Road can be found along a breathtaking ocean and cliff front route located along Oahu's Gold Coast.
  • Our collection is inspired by the luxe lifestyle of this coast during the late 1800's and early 1900's as well-heeled travelers from all over the world first discovered a place with a beauty and culture unlike any of them had experienced.
  • During this time, the coast blossomed into a natural retreat for Hawaii's royal families and their guests whom included European dignitaries, famous writers and wealthy heiresses. (Doris Duke's middle-eastern palace can still be found along Diamond Head Road and is now a museum displaying a vast collection of Islamic art.)
  • Hawaii's royals entertained in grand fashion and as thank you gifts, guests carried rare bolts of silk fabric with them as luxurious tokens of their appreciation upon return visits.
  • Our designs are inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds us. Our newest "torch ginger" print is inspired by an iconic flower that often appears in well-known vintage paintings, yet is rarely seen blooming today. When my husband and I purchased a new property in 2006, we were delighted to see rare torch ginger blossoms in the garden.
